Stuffed Between My Ears

Over at the Geek Syndicate, Phil Ambler and Dion Winton-Polak of Scrolls host Lily Childs, where they discuss all things flash fiction and read from a number of works that appeared at Lily's Friday Prediction. Included is "One Night," my piece of myth and horror, at about the 8:00 minute mark. Also included are pieces by John Xero, Sandra Davies and other familiar pens. Listen!

The whole thing is wonderfully fun to listen to, and I must say that the readings really bring to life those tiny tales, with all the drama and intrigue. Well done!

I missed a deadline that I really wanted not to miss. I'm kicking myself, but sometimes, I don't honestly know where the time goes. I seem to remember when I had more time, but maybe that was just a dream. At any rate, the story I wrote was indeed finished last night before the midnight deadline, but I was not happy with the last few paragraphs. This morning, I'm glad I didn't submit since I want to change them, and not minor changes, either. I'll just have to find another market that wants an origin story/warped Red Riding Hood (not really)/fantasy piece.

Daydreams occupy a lot of my time. Right now, I'm obsessed with Imagine Dragons, and in my mind, I have developed an entire fan video of Sack Boy from Little Big Planet waking up and exploring his new world to the Imagine Dragons song, "Radioactive." I've got every scene, every move he makes, the world (apocalyptic, of course), all of it planned out. But I'm not an animator! I can draw you a horse heading left, if you allow for a great deal of artistic license and just trust me that it's a horse. Anyway. Here's the song:

  1. As I write this, I have a Saturday-at-midnight deadline for a new short story that I have yet to begin. Drawer-crapping will commence shortly.

Otherwise- one time I missed a deadline for an antho by a DAY. It was the worst, but then, with a quick Duotrope search, found a new home for it right away. I'm sure you'll have the same fortune.

Also - loved hearing your story out loud (along with the others), but I'm a total sucker for good audio stories, and this was a good one!

(They pronounced your name as "Bone", and all along I've been thinking "Bonn"...)

  2. Ooh - also - I think you could actually make your dream come alive with Little Big Planet 2... or convince someone in the developer forums for that game to do it for you - that's kind of what the game has become! (This is an awesome tune.)

    1. I had no idea what you were talking about, so I did some Google-fu and found forums and lots of really energetic people who enjoy creating levels and collaborating and stuff like that. Very cool! Thank you!

As I'm late in answering this, I feel I must say: Saturday at midnight is, like, only a day away, sir! :) :) :)

They did ask how to pronounce my last name, and it is indeed "bone." Everyone thinks Bonn. Except when I traveled in Germany many years ago, and every time I signed in to a youth hostel, the nice young German person behind the counter would say (in German), "Miss Bohn! How nice to see you! How do you like our local sports team/beer?" Actually, I have no idea what they said, but it happened every time a German saw my last name. (Which means, btw, "bean farmer")

It's not as good as Allinotte, I must say. Quite poetic yet strong, I've always thought.

  3. That was wonderful, hearing your story read out loud, adds another dimension =) (Also; OMG, those people are real! Yay for internet craziness!)

Oh, how I wish I were an animator! I´d do so much fab porn =)*fades away in happy dreams* Oh, but your idea is also good ;)

    1. They are totally real! Hearing Lily's voice made me ecstatic. She sounds lovely, doesn't she?

I'd do so much fab porn -- Yes. I actually tried learning Photoshop just so I could make my own porny art, but I fail at creative stuff beyond writing. I know what it's like for readers of fanfic to want to beg a writer to write this/that/that other thing, because I totally wanted to beg people to draw me stuff all the time.
